I find this image interesting. Why?

Aside from loving cafes and coffee shops, why does this image appeal to me? There appears to be no focus to the image, where is it focussed? Its not on the lady in the middle ground, more on the chair in the near ground. Nothing of interest is on the table so why did I take the shot? At this point in time I cant remember, but clearly something appealled. I love the black and white pallet and I took it this way. I like the leaves surrounding the edge of the frame, blurred to give the impression that we are looking into the image. I like the fact we can’t see the faces of the two people and indeed that they have their back to us so they are clearly not the subject. But the background is blown out in its highlights and offers us nothing to land our eyes and interest on. So we are drawn back to the shadows of the foreground, almost in the expectation of someone returning to sit in that chair.
So is it that feeling of sitting there, waiting, looking, observing nothing in particular which gives me pleasure in looking at this image? Is it that it makes me feel that i am there, relaxing in a cafe with a coffee, just looking around me, listening to the sights and sounds of the location? Perhaps thats it. Its certainly a nice thought. Perhaps someone will return to that chair and break my reverie, but in the meantime I think I’ll linger a little longer, watching what happens here, considering the moment, and perhaps order another coffee.
