I shot this image in a show garden which contained only the elements you see here, a winding wooden walkway over some water with some red canes sticking up all around. I didnt see the point of the garden as I stood and looked at it. I still could not see the point some minutes later after having considered it further and taken this photo. Then I walked slowly through it. It was quite a different experience. The winding path seemed to make you consider the elements of the garden and slow you down purposefully, thinking about the elements of the garden and what you saw. The canes appeared to constrain your vision to the elements immediately around you instead of also relating them to the features further away. Instead of considering the garden useless I immediately began to appreciate it for its contemplative nature.
This photo is also growing on me. There’s something about the light on the wooden causeway, its winding path and the almost monochrome nature of the shot aside from the red canes. I also like the legs in there although I cant decide whether they add humour or similarity to the image, when compared to the red canes. Masking out the legs with my hand the image loses something I feel, perhaps that 3rd element, a number which works so well in imagery. Whatever the reason, this image is growing on me.
