I picked up this film rangefinder for £12 at a local charity shop. I figured it was worth the donation even if it ended up being a pretty paperweight. Aside from needing a new battery and cleaning out the corrosion from the battery compartment, the meter seemed to work but the rangefinder calibration was clearly off. The aperture also appeared to be stuck which, searching on the web, seemed to be a common problem that just needed a quick clean. Being that it only cost me £12 I figured I may aswell give this a go myself. It took me sometime to find the time to do this and in the meantime I decided I would actually like to shoot this thing and bring it back to life if possible rather than trash it by some ham-fisted attempt at repair. A quick mail to Miles Whitehead suggested £60 should sort a repair and I sent it off.
The results so far have been very pleasing. Here are a few frames taken using HP5+ at EI400 and postprocessed in CaptureOne. It will be great to try this for some street work.
