The new-to-me term of ‘Peelie Wallie’ seemed to aptly describe the way I was feeling one dreach day in Ardnamurchan, when a fellow workshop attendee suggested we try a bit of intentional camera movement (ICM) to try and make the best of the poor weather.
I’d never really tried ICM to this point, its not something that I’d thought was a way I responded to the environment, but I enjoyed the process and thought there might be something interesting in the images.
Four years on and I’ve finally sat down to consider the images and with a little processing, they are making me rethink things. There’s life in these images, an energy and vivaciousness that speaks to me with colours that for me, really reflect the colours of Ardnamurchan and the coastal waters of NW Scotland. You’ll have to excuse all the tiny raindrops, the weather really wasnt great and I have too little time to remove every one that the software hasnt. So, this will remain as an experiment, but it has certainly been a fruitful, reflective one; an experiment I may try with more deliberate intention on the next Ardnamurchan workshop and elsewhere. I may even use these as some inspiration for a little painting, to take the experimental concept a little further.
